Adonis Blue

The last few hours before sunset and the Adonis Blue butterflies began heading towards the tall grasses to roost. They roost with wings closed but in the last rays of the evening this male Adonis Blue slowly opened the brilliant sky-blue wings which give the butterfly its name. The chequered fringes to the wings are also visible in this fresh looking individual. I was careful to find an angle to exclude any distracting background vegetation to keep the attention fixed on this beautiful butterfly.
