Bird’s-nest Orchid
Reference: FF21
Location: Chappetts Copse, Hampshire
Gallery: Flowers (mainly Orchids),
This is my 20th species of Orchid in Britain, the Bird’s-nest Orchid. This one is still tight in bud having just emerged through the leaf litter. The plant is leafless and the flowers are straw coloured completely lacking chlorophyll and so it grows as a parasite on the roots of trees particularly Beech trees.
