Glasdrum Wood is perfect as the Chequered Skipper favours south-facing, sheltered areas where the larval food plant, Purple Moor-grass, and nectar sources (Bluebell and Bugle) grow in damp grassland. Sheltered sites are often on the edge of woodland, where the food plant flourishes in richer soils. The habitat also typically contains tall shrubs that provide perches for males defending their territory. Here is another shot of the male Chequered Skipper perched ready to ward off any intruders, including insects much bigger than himself.
