In May 2015 a full size cast iron man by Antony Gormley had been erected next to Clavell’s Pier in Kimmeridge Bay. He was due to be in position for 12 months but in mid September he was toppled in stormy weather and he then lay wrapped in sandbags for months. Before his demise I had taken a few clients to photograph him but didn’t take any images myself, instead planning to revisit on my own sometime. I was therefore a bit alarmed when it appeared that he wasn’t going to be put back up again. However 3 months later he was back and I took a client to shoot sunset there. With the tide forecast at 1.6m this was getting a little high for the pier but would be perfect with the addition of the extra cast iron focal point. 2 weeks after taking this image the statue was sheared off at the ankles by another storm and it looks fatal this time!
