Fly Orchid

We had given up trying to find Fly Orchids but just as we were about to leave the Sword-leaved Helleborine’s at Chappetts Copse I found one! A new species of Orchid for me, my 21st. This individual had all but one of its flowers still in bud. The Fly Orchid uses scent to attract male wasps and bees which pollinate the flowers during their attempt to mate with them!
