Frost at Ovington Bridge

Ovington is a quiet Hampshire village lying on the River Itchen as it winds its way through the Hampshire chalk. I timed my visit to coincide with a severe cold snap with temperatures dropping to –9 degrees. I’d seen this composition on a previous visit with the riverside path leading the eye to the bridge and with heavily frosted vegetation in the foreground. The frost, the dawn colours, a hint of mist on the water and a Waxwing calling overhead gave the scene a magical feel.
