To cope with the high contrast range in this scene I bracketed 5 images 1-stop apart. As I was including the sun in the image there was a fair amount of ugly lens flare which would be difficult to remove in post processing. I therefore took a second series of 5 bracketed images with my hand covering the sun to prevent the flare issues. I then merged the 2 images using layer masks in photoshop to keep the sun but remove the flare and my hand!
