Heath Fritillary

Reference: BU121
Location: East Blean Woods, Kent
Gallery: Butterflies,

In the past coppicing of woodland meant that suitable areas for fritillaries were regularly created within the forest but as this practice ceased species like the Heath Fritillary which are slow to adapt have been badly hit. Effective woodland management allows this species to thrive in a very small number of locations in the UK.
