Narrow-lipped Helleborine

Reference: FF61
Location: Warburg NR, Oxfordshire
Gallery: Flowers (mainly Orchids),

The 37th species of orchid I’ve seen in Britain and the last species I can see without a long trip north. At Warburg reserve in Oxfordshire the Narrow-lipped Helleborines are protected from deer and rabbits by small cages and so they are easy to find and on arrival I was excited to see that there were lots of cages. However, over the next 20 minutes, my excitement changed to disappointment as I realised that virtually all of the cages were empty, it seemed that slugs had got to the orchids. Luckily there was 1 good looking orchid in about 40 cages and so I concentrated on that one although it wasn’t fully flowering.
